27 April 2019 marks 25 years since South Africans went to the polls in the country’s first democratic elections.

In the build up to South Africa celebrating 25 years of Democracy, SABC News will take you back to 1994, and highlight news events from 1 March to 27 April.

In our daily video series, we track the hype and political vigor that preceded that historic day.

We look at how local and international citizens rallied behind this momentous occasion, and how the public broadcaster aimed cameras and microphones across the country to document the birth of a new South Africa.
