Bheki Cele stressed that KwaZulu-Natal police needed to solve the high numbers of murders in the province.

National Police Minister Bheki Cele has vowed to crack the case of the ANC Elections Co-ordinator and two others who were gunned down on Saturday morning.

He was visiting Emfume, south of Durban where the murders took place.

A sombre mood as the village of Emfumo mourns the death of three local residents. The brazen killings have left the community fearing for their lives.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, armed gunmen entered Nqobizwe Mkhize’s home.

Mkhize was recently elected as the ward’s elections co-ordinator. He was shot multiple times while asleep with his wife.

Minutes after Mkhize was murdered, two other locals were found dead on the road.

It’s speculated that they may have been shot because they had witnessed Mkhize’s attackers fleeing the scene.

The Police Minister visited the bereaved families. He is confident police will find the perpetrators.

He also stressed that KwaZulu-Natal police needed to solve the high numbers of murders in the province.

The minister said he has committed to solve the case and that this will be the last such killing that goes unsolved.

Cele said the public had been quick to associate some attacks to politics even before investigations were concluded.

He cautioned against the behaviour saying it could lead to police being thrown off their investigations.

Voter registration was disrupted in the area following the attack.
