Police Minister Bheki Cele has ordered a full investigation into the conduct of police officers at Sydenham Police Station in Durban after Miguel Louw‘s family complained of being ill-treated by police there when they reported the missing boy.

Ten-year-old Miguel Louw went missing in July.

His decomposed body was found in Phoenix north of Durban last week.

Cele visited Miguel’s family on Friday.

A 43-year-old man was later arrested for kidnapping the boy and remains in custody.

Cele says, “The family raised the issue of how in the initial stage the police station and the person they went to report the case was not very kind. I’ve requested a full blown report to be presented to the leadership of the police and myself and then we will take the matter up … they will be punished.”
