Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to visit Rustenburg in the North West on Wednesday morning.

The visit is part of a festive season roadshow initiative aimed at ensuring the well-being and safety of residents and tourists during the holiday season.

Cele is expected to also interact with communities at a local shopping centre and taxi rank.

Police Ministry spokesperson Lirandzu Themba says, “He will lead the annual season inspection roadshow. This visit forms part of efforts by the SAPS to channel resources to areas where they are most needed. The police’s intervention will able the police to decisively deal with crime and any security threats this holiday season and beyond.”

Last year, Cele lamented the reckless behaviour of drivers, who continue to drive under the influence of alcohol. Cele conducted a festive season safety inspection at Richards Bay, in northern Kwa Zulu-Natal.
