Cele demands swift arrest of suspects in robbery of firearms, ammunition at Malamulele police station

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Police Minister Bheki Cele says they need to put extra effort into arresting a group of suspects who attacked police officers and robbed their firearms and ammunition at the Malamulele police station in Limpopo almost a month ago.

Cele has visited the police station as part of the safer festive season operation which kick-started in the Vhembe district in Limpopo. He says he is unhappy that no arrest has been made four weeks after the incident.

“Absolutely unhappy about the situation. It is quite a long time – four weeks nothing has happened. We have agreed that from now, on daily basis, we will receive reports on how far the police are going with this. They need to put extra effort and make sure that these people are arrested,” says Bheki Cele.

Cele has also interacted with the community at Thavhani mall in Thohoyandou and Malamulele. One of the residents, Thina Nemaranzhe from Duthuni village, outside Thohoyandou, raised her concern about what she calls poor investigations by police in the case of a missing person.

“I reported the matter at Tembisa south that my sister is missing since then they are not assisting me. I’m doing up and down but I don’t know what can I do I think he will help me because he is promising that he will help me,” says resident Thina Nemaranzhe.
