Cele appoints new acting police commissioner in KZN

The Police Minister, Bheki Cele has announced the appointment of a new Acting Police Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The province has had an Acting Police Commissioner since the then Commissioner, Mmamonnye Ngobeni, was suspended in 2015.

Cele  speaking after a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee of the Security Cluster probing the latest incidents of violence, especially political violence happening at the KwaZulu-Natal.

Cele says, “You will know that in this province we have been minus the provincial commissioner for some time. It is almost plus or minus two year. It is one area that we have definitely made the change.

“We have engaged with the acting commissioner General [Bhekinkosi] Langa and we have all agreed that we will be having General Lucky Mkhwanazi as a New Acting Provincial Commissioner of the province of KwaZulu-Natal most of you will know him as the head of the special task force and as a person who acted after I was fired,” explained Cele.
