Reading Time: 2 minutes

North West Health authorities have not yet determined the cause and extent of damage caused by a fire that gutted the Christiana Provincial Hospital. The 50-bed facility was completely gutted in a fire that broke out on Wednesday morning.

Patients have been transferred to a neighbouring hospital.

Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, says the hospital is badly damaged.

“Christiana hospital in terms of the damage, it is completely damaged. What is painful is that an investment of R95 million has completely gone down in one day through fire.

We are told by those who were there, that the fire started on the side where there is construction. But, the responsibility that has to determine what had happened, who is at fault, rest with the police forensic.”

The hotel also caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Capa, who was a guest at the hotel, had to flee from her room wearing her nightgown.
