Catholic Church seeks to be more vocal on issues facing SA

The Catholic Church wants to be more vocal on issues affecting the South African community just like it did during the apartheid days. This comes as the church celebrates 200 years of existence in South Africa. Thousands of pilgrims will gather at the Mother of Mercy Shrine and Pastoral Centre in Magaliesburg, in the North West on Saturday morning.

It was established in the Cape of Good Hope in June 1818 and has since grown throughout the country and the continent. Auxilliary Bishop of Johannesburg, Bishop Duncan Tsoke says the church can’t sit back and watch communities fall prey to people using the name of God in vain.

“You know an ashamed interest in money and things that money can buy. There’s a whole issue about false prophets. This needs to be challenged. I think our people believe in miracles, they want to see miracles happening and I think that’s the biggest thing that we need to look at, healing in the church.”
