Caster Semenya wins gold medal in 1500m

Caster Semenya has won a gold medal in the 1500m at the Commonwealth Games in Australia on Tuesday. She set a new Games record of 4 m 0.71 s, also her own personal best.

She is also expected to win the 800 metres later this week.

South Africa added three more medals to their tally at the Commonwealth Games. They have now leap-frogged New Zealand into 5th place on the medals table.

South Africa won two medals in the pool on the final night of the swimming competition.

Bradley Tandy won silver in the 50m freestyle, and then joined Calvyn Justus, Chad le Clos and Cameron van der Burgh to win bronze in the medley relay.

The squad had their best ever Commonwealth Games, winning 12 medals in all, 6 of them gold.

There were also two fourth places for the team – for Brent Szurdocki in the 1500 freestyle, and for Arno Haasbroek and Andre du Toit in the Queens Prize in shooting.
