Caster gains more support from international athletes

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Caster Semenya is getting support from international athletes, as South African athletics authorities prepare to take her fight to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

The sports world body has instituted new rules that will limit the testosterone levels for female athletes in certain events.

South African fans have been outraged, and now support is coming in from the rest of the world.

Greek pole vaulted Katerina Stefanidi agrees that it’s unfair to target only certain events, but also asked how far the efforts to level the playing fields should go.

She asks when those efforts will stop as a short athlete; she wonders whether they should set limits on the length of the arms of her fellow vaulters.

The Canadian Athetics Federation has asked that the rules be reviewed, because they don’t seem fair, respectful or healthy.

Athletics South Africa (Asa) has confirmed it will challenge the IAAF decision, and take it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if necessary.

South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) says it will support Asa’s efforts.
