The Stilfontein Magistrate’s Court in the North West has postponed the trial of 21 people accused of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition to October 18, 2022. They also face charges which include conspiracy to commit robbery and illegal gold mining.
This is to allow the prosecution and the investigating officers to get profiles of the accused persons. Twenty suspected illegal miners were arrested on Monday, but a total of 21 appeared in court on Wednesday.
Though the court granted media permission to film the proceedings, it imposed strict instructions to not show the faces of the accused or court personnel as further investigations are being conducted on the matter.
It was not apparent in court when the other suspect was arrested or who he might be. The Hawks promised to update us on that soonest.
