Rwandan genocide suspect Fulgence Kayishema appears in the Cape Town Magistrates Court, in Cape Town, South Africa May 26, 2023.

The case against a fugitive wanted in connection with the 1994 Rwandan genocide has been postponed to June 9, 2023, at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

The matter was postponed for the charge sheet to be finalised.

Rwandan national, Fulgence Kayishema, was arrested in Paarl last month. Interpol and the United Nations (UN) have been looking for Kayishema since 2001 for allegedly committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Rwanda.

He is believed to have ordered the killing of around 2 000 Tutsis that had taken refuge in a church during the genocide. The 61-year-old was arrested on five charges including the transgression of the Immigration Act and fraud.
