A police Captain from Thembalethu in George in the Western Cape has briefly appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court for allegedly tampering with evidence.

Mzoli Mtabati, 53, was arrested on Friday following a raid by the Hawks at his office.

Authorities found empty cartridges believed to be from a business robbery scene in January 2022.

On the day of the robbery, an unknown number of suspects managed to flee a local fuel station with an undisclosed amount of cash. This followed a heavy gun battle between the suspects and police.

Mtabati was arrested and released on bail of R1 000, his matter was postponed to April 25, 2022, for further investigation.
