The case against 24 Rammolutsi community members, in Viljoenskroon, Free State, arrested for public violence has been postponed to next week Friday.

The Rammolotsi residents will await trial behind bars as police conduct further investigations into the matter. They are also verifying their home addresses.

The group was nabbed on Tuesday, a day before Wednesday’s general elections, after a community hall and a clinic were set alight.

They face charges of public violence and malicious damage to property.

The protestors were demanding water, residential sites and jobs among others.

Community leader, Lala Tumetsane says, “Their arrest won’t prevent us from fighting. Police are used to fight political battles because they arrested people who were not even protesting.”

Outside court, anger that the suspects were not released. “My child was taking her child to crèche and was wrongfully arrested. I want to know from the police why she was arrested,” asks a resident.
