The widow of former President Nelson Mandela, Graca Machel says she is deeply touched by the Caring4Girls initiative.
It is aimed at raising funds to purchase sanitary pads for young girls from impoverished families.
Adventurer, Sibusiso Vilane, is among the 13 volunteers who will climb Mount Kilimanjaro next week in the Trek4Mandela Challenge.
Most girls from poor backgrounds are said to miss up to 50 schooling days every year due to menstrual challenges.
Machel says the project reminds her of her difficult childhood.
She says, “Whenever I am reminded of the journey from where I come from and from where I am today, it just makes me to become very emotional. The initiative is so touching. I can’t tell how I feel about this.”
