At least 80% of a large vegetation fire that has been raging in the Du Toitskloof Mountains has been contained.
Cape Winelands Regional Commander, Piet du Plessis says fire fighting crews remained on the scene throughout the night.
He says two helicopters are assisting the ground crews to douse the fire in inaccessible areas.
Du Plessis says the overcast weather is assisting them as there is minimal wind and it is not too warm.
“The fire is pretty much under control, 80% of it. The only section that is still burning is inaccessible for our ground teams, so we are waiting for that to burn through the inaccessible area so that it can be possible for our ground teams to reach it and put that section out on the left and right flank. Currently there’s no danger to any property or structures in the near vicinity.”
