The City of Cape Town has handed over 330 title deeds to first time home owners in the city over the past week.

Home owners from Kleinvlei, Heideveld and Roosendal in Delft were among the recipients. Some of the recipients have been on the city’s housing database for more than 26 years.

Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Development, Brett Herron says this is just one of the ways the city is addressing the inequality that apartheid created.

“These title deeds are more than just a piece of paper. They are an example of the City’s commitment to redressing the inequality of the Apartheid past, a period where people were denied ownership of property. We encourage the owners to look after their properties and to make responsible decisions regarding their homes. We wish them all the best and many happy memories with their families,” says Herron.
