Law enforcement officers of the City of Cape Town will keep a watchful eye on the city’s beaches this weekend. This is to coincide with the start of the school break and the final round of valedictory celebrations before the matric exams.

The Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says in the past, large crowds of young people congregated in public spaces and law enforcement officers had to contend with the consumption of alcohol and with some anti-social behaviour that resulted from that.

“Our deployment plans have been drawn up in accordance with these historical patterns. The City appeals to young people to celebrate in a responsible manner, more so because of the ongoing risk that COVID-19 poses.
Keep your distance, sanitize and mask up, but also, leave the alcohol at home, especially since it is illegal to drink in public, but also because it impairs an individual’s judgment. “
