Cape Town International Animation Festival claims success

Reading Time: 1 minute

The seventh annual Cape Town International Animation Festival was a huge success, attracting more than 2000 delegates to the Mother City.

The three-day event brought together global leaders in animation, offering exposure to the magic created in Hollywood and demonstrating the high-level of skill exhibited by our very own internationally-acclaimed animators.

South African animated short film “Revolting Rhymes” has been nominated for an Oscar. The award ceremony is taking place on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Cape Town International Animation Festival Director, Dianne Makings, says the work done on home soil is world class.

“South Africans are incredibly talented but unfortunately locals don’t get to see all that work because we export it. So for me this is like a really good chance to show people and inspire people because our talent is really world class. Our international delegates give us feed back, when we travel overseas we get the same feed back and often the work that you are seeing here is all being seen overseas and is not regarded as ‘South African’ as we tend to do.”
