Cape Town Disaster team complete fire assessments

Cape Town Disaster Risk Management officers have completed their assessments in the three areas in which four people were killed by fires.

Spokesperson Charlotte Powell says in Garden City near Eersteriver, a man was burnt to death when two dwellings were destroyed.

Six people were affected by the fire. In a similar fire in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha, a man succumbed to burn wounds and 13 people others were left destitute when two shacks were destroyed.

Powell says in Zola Farm near Mamre, the bodies of two men were discovered after one dwelling caught fire.

The South African Social Security Agency has been informed and it has promised to provide humanitarian relief.

Powell says home starter kits will be provided to those affected.
