Cape Town City mentor Benni McCarthy has earned a lot of respect in his first stint as head coach.

The MTN8 first leg semi-finals take place this weekend. Cape Town City are at home against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon.

New kid on the block as far as coaching is concerned, Cape Town City mentor Benni McCarthy cannot be taken for granted.

McCarthy has earned a lot of respect in his first stint as head coach and would want to stamp his authority on the domestic football scene with a win over the former African champions.

He says it’s time for his players to shine against the best.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane has conceded that failing to win the MTN8 has put him under pressure.

Despite having won the cup while it was the SAA Cup as then coach of SuperSport United in 2004, the MTN8 remains elusive for Mosimane.

Mosimane has won almost every title on offer in Africa, including the CAF Champions League and the Super Cup. And the MTN8 is the only one missing from his resume.
