The Mother City’s fan walk was transformed into a colourful parade during the annual Cape Town Carnival on Saturday night.

This as thousands flocked to see the floats making their way through the city.

Equated to the Rio Carnival in Brazil, the festival in the mother city is all about having the freedom of the city streets.

The fan walk, burst into a sea of sound and colour with over 2000 performers. Floats, dancers and larger than life puppets thrilled and entertained the crowds.

The Cape Town’s firefighters are always a definite crowd favourite.

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille says: “Its one of our very important events where more than 45 000 people in the city and our international guests come together. And what I like about this event every year is just to see the diversity of Capetonians, the cosmopolitan nature of our people coming together.”

This year’s theme – ‘Mother City: Mother Nature’ is a very important theme as the city faces one of the worst droughts in decades.

The vibrant street party and parade celebrates diversity, creativity and culture.
