Cape Flats community fights against gangsterism

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Residents of the Cape Flats fight a daily battle for a semblance of a normal life as gangsters and drug abuse ravage entire communities.

Schools are often in the cross fire of gang fighting and in the past various schools in areas like Manenberg and Lavender Hill, had to close for safety reasons.

But community members are fighting back and through dedicated intervention programmes, they are trying to keep their children safe.

On Friday, the Education Department in the Western Cape said it’s reviewing all its school safety programmes in an effort to mitigate the effects of gangs on Cape Flats’ schools.
