The Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa (PWMSA) is hosting a candle light memorial service for anti-apartheid struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Pretoria.

Former Higher Education Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize as well as MEC for Sports and Recreation Faith Mazibuko are attending the service at the Lillian Ngoyi Square in the CBD.

Gauteng PWMSA Provincial Organiser Jacque Mofokeng says the light candle service is to appreciate and acknowledge the selfless work for freedom of Mama Winnie.

Mkhize says the positive public reaction to the passing of the 81-year-old ANC Veteran and stalwart shows that she was the people’s leader.

Mkhize says Mama Winnie who in real life was not recognised by her own political party has been vindicated by the warm recognition and acknowledgement she received after her death.
