In Andre Ayew, John Pantshil, Asmoah Gyan, Sulley Munatri, Kwado Asamoah and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu among an array of other stars, Ghana has the team that can send shivers down any opposition’s spine. However, for years now they have shown nothing more than just great potential.
They were impressive in the 2008 tournament and it didn’t come as a surprise when they reached the final of the same tournament two years later and went on to become the best African team in the2010 Fifa World Cup two years later.
Those previous upbeat performances saw them enter the 2012 Afcon edition as favourites to win the tournament. Nonetheless, their performance was far from impressive despite reaching the semifinals of the tournament.
Whether they have what it takes show something other potential when they revisit South Africa remains to be seen. The last time they won the tournament was 30 years ago in 1982.
