The situation is calm in Kagiso west of Johannesburg following an earlier protests by communities.  Residents disrupted traffic and barricaded Main Reef road towards Randfontein with burning tyres and rocks earlier on Thursday.

Police intervened and the road has now been re-opened to traffic.

“About two hundred protesters blockaded the road, actually affecting a lot of motorists, throwing stones at the motorist, so we managed to disperse them. The protesters allege that there are some members of the community whose water was actually cut off. Right now the situation is still calm, is still under control. The stones and the barricades have been removed from the road,” says Police spokesperson Solomon Sibiya.
