A 39-year suspect has been arrested in connection with Kinnear's murder.

The community of Bishop Lavis on the Cape Flats has come out in numbers to pay their respects to the family of murdered top cop Charl Kinnear.

They are holding a candlelight vigil at Kinnear’s house in Gearing Road in Bishop Lavis. Kinnear, who was linked to the police’s anti-gang unit, was assassinated last week in front of his home.

The local Community Police Forum has organised the ceremony to commemorate his life.

Acting Chairperson, Amanda Davids, paid tribute to Kinnear, saying he was a great crime fighter who lived by example.

A strong police contingent is keeping a watchful eye on proceedings.

A 39-year suspect has been arrested in connection with Kinnear’s murder and will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police Minister Bheki Cele visits Kinnear’s family:
