Desalination plant set to bring relief to Cape Town

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A clean water supply from a desalination plant is coming closer in Cape Town, as the city assesses the conditions of the pipelines that will connect to the plant.

The pipeline in Paarden Island is the main water supply pipe which feeds into the central Cape Town area and surroundings.

Mayoral spokesperson Zara Nicholson says it is a 2km pipeline that will be evaluated.

“This involves assessing the valves and general condition of the pipeline, this is a necessity to prepare and ensure that the water coming from the desalination plant can reach the bulk water system safely and securely. In order to do this the city has to reduce water pressure to some areas.”
