Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi says former President Jacob Zuma will finally get a chance to try and clear his name when he appears in the Durban High Court on Friday to face fraud and corruption charges.

Buthelezi was speaking to the SABC during the visit to the United Congregational Church of South Africa at Inanda, north of Durban, for an Easter service.

Zuma has always maintained that he wants his day in court. He will face 18 charges.

He will appear alongside representatives of French arms company, Thint Holdings, on charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering. Buthelezi says the law must take its course.

“We believe that allegations are allegations and therefore it is in the interest of Mr Zuma himself and he, himself. expressed that an eagerness to have his day in court. So we hope that this matter will be ended now in the interest not only for the public, because he has been our President but in his own interest as well. The matter can now be decided by courts that finally and lastly he has had the opportunity of his day in court.”
