Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi has cautioned the public to refrain from using violence as a strategy to get service delivery.

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)  leader Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi has condemned political leaders who use violence as a strategy to get votes.

Buthelezi addressed his party’s Freedom Day celebrations at Lindelani Township, north of Durban.

Buthelezi also cautioned the public to refrain from using violence as a strategy to get service delivery.

He says people should use their freedom to fight against corruption, poverty and crime.

He says violence only plants a seed of hatred and instability.

“Violence is an attempt to force change through destruction. There are political leaders today who claim that the only way to get what you want is through violence; whether it’s burning tyres or burning buildings, they seem to drive a wedge between citizens, sowing hatred and anger. They think that out of chaos, prosperity will be birthed.”

Scores of IFP supporters young and old gathered at Pholani Sports Ground.

Lindelani is known as one of IFP’s strongholds.

The supporters, clad in their party traditional colours with t-shirts bearing the face of their leader Buthelezi, are singing songs, saying come 2019 they will win elections in KwaZulu-Natal.

Police have been deployed to monitor the proceedings.
