Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has called on motorists to drive cautiously as they return from various Easter Weekend destinations.

Buthelezi was speaking to the SABC during the visit to the United Congregational Church of South Africa at Inanda, north of Durban, for an Easter service.

More than 20 people have been killed on KwaZulu-Natal roads since the beginning of the Easter weekend.

Buthelezi says drunk drivers must face the full might of the law.

“I think it’s grossly irresponsible for our people to embark on alcohol when they have lives of people on their hands. And I think that it’s very painful each time it is announced through the media that so many people have lost their lives so unnecessarily. It’s something that really makes all of us sad because these people are dying unnecessarily.”
