Business investment in Africa still faces capital challenges

The first day of the “I can 4IR” conference which is under way in Houghton, Johannesburg, saw many business owners complain about challenges they face accessing capital.

Owners say investment opportunities in South Africa and across the African Continent continue to be handled by a number of challenges that hinder progress in the continent.

Small business owners say the banks make it difficult to access loans or the necessary capital to be able to start a business.

Makaziwe Mandela who attended the conference says, “The bank will loan you money and then want equity in that company, and they will tell you they cannot loan you beyond a certain point so you are a slave eternally to the banks…”

“I think the policies in this country have to change and the political economic activism is actually important in this country.
