Transport union Satawu spokesperson, Zanele Sabela has accused bus companies of negotiating in bad faith.

The nationwide bus strike is continuing after wage talks between unions representing striking bus drivers and employer associations collapsed again in Johannesburg Thursday.

Workers are demanding a 9.5% salary increase for the first year and 8.5% for the second year. The employers have now reverted to an 8% offer.

Transport union Satawu spokesperson, Zanele Sabela has accused bus companies of negotiating in bad faith.

“What is really upsetting about this whole thing that throughout the week they been denying that they issued us with an ultimatum. But now with them doing exactly what the ultimatum was saying it just means they were negotiating in bad faith all along. We are looking for 9.5 percent for the first year and we are looking for an 8.5 percent for the second year.”
