Burger hoping for a medal at the netball World Cup

Erin Burger received an award as the most valuable player at the 2011 World Cup in Singapore, but has never earned a podium finish with the team.

South African national netball team player Erin Burger is hoping to earn a medal at her fourth World Cup in Liverpool in July.

Burger will be appearing for the fourth World Cup and she has amassed more than 115 caps for the Proteas.

Burger received an award as the most valuable player at the 2011 World Cup in Singapore, but has never earned a podium finish with the team.

The 32-year-old will be one of the senior players at the World Cup including Captain Bongi Msomi, Maryka Holtzhausen, Lenize Potgieter, Karla Mostert and few others.

She is hoping that her experience will rub off to the young players at the World Cup.

Burger was part of the Spar Smileys team at the recent Telkom Premier League that was won by Gauteng Jaguars few weeks ago.

The Smileys team comprised of locally-based players preparing for the upcoming World Cup. She is happy with the preparations.

South Africa will be in Group C with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Fiji. – Report by Vincent Sitsula
