Brutal killing of police officers can’t be the norm: Cele

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Police Minister Bheki Cele says the brutal murder of police officers every week can’t be the norm. Cele was speaking during the funeral service of police officer Sharon Mogale in Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni.

Mogale was shot and killed while with another woman officer at a retail store in Tembisa last month.

The four suspects who attacked them also took their service pistols. Cele has called on members of the public to unite against those who murder police officers.

“What is dangerous is when we begin to understand that these things are a part of our lives. It’s becoming a norm to bury police officers every weekend. We are softer to criminals. Police die all the time and there is no uproar. It seems normal. Rise against the people that kill the police. Someone must say enough is enough,” says Cele.
