‘Brown defies Eskom’s expectations’

Civil rights group, Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) says Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown has defied expectations by appointing only two new members to the Eskom board.

Malegapuru Makgoba and Tshepo Mongola join the seven members of the previous interim board.

OUTA’s Wayne Duvenhage says that they are concerned about the existing Board members’ unwillingness to have played a more meaningful role in the past as a Board.

Duvenage says they’d expected Brown to appoint six new members now to make up a full board.

“We do like the two new board member appointments and the fact that Minister Brown is looking to business to try and fill the other four appointments. And that the new board is being tasked to look at the issues of the new appointment of a CEO,” says Duvenhage.
