US singer Britney Spears has won the right to choose her own lawyer to help her end a 13 year long conservatorship.

Addressing the court by phone for the second time in less than a month on Wednesday, Spears tearfully pleaded for her father to be immediately ousted from the role of controlling her business affairs.

A fan outside the court says, “Britney is just such a light in the world. She’s done so much for society, for music, as a person. And it’s really sad that she was allowed to live in this type of situation for 13 years…”

“A little bit of support wouldn’t hurt just being here for her through all the tough times that she’s been through and no one deserves to go through any of this stuff she’s going through at the moment. Like she said I believe she was traumatised, she can’t sleep. If you look at her she looks tired. She just wants her life back,” added the fans.

The former teen phenomenon said she wanted to get married again and have a baby. But she said she has a contraceptive device that she wants removed, but is not allowed to go to the doctor “because they don’t want me to have children.”

Spears has two children with her former husband Kevin Federline.

Federline has custody of the children.

Outside the courthouse, several dozen fans, many of them dressed in pink and holding “Free Britney” placards, rallied in support of their campaign to have the conservatorship ended.

Last year, Spears began the legal process to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from handling personal affairs ranging from her medical care to who visits her secluded villa outside Los Angeles.
