The assault case against former Kaizer Chiefs Goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo has been postponed to the 27th of October. A student at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) Mbasa Mantenetya against whom Khuzwayo laid a similar charge, also appeared in court. Both suspects appeared briefly in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court and both are facing charges of assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm.

The incident happened at MUT on Saturday where Khuzwayo was a guest speaker. It is alleged that a misunderstanding led to an altercation in which both were injured.

The public gallery of the court was full to capacity with students from Mangosuthu University of Technology as the former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was appearing in court.

Mantenetya is facing a similar charge which was laid by Khuzwayo. The incident happened on Saturday on campus where Khuzwayo was a guest speaker at a function for sports students. It is alleged that Khuzwayo and Mantenetya stabbed each other.

The court decided to give both accused time to discuss the issue and to resolve the issue amicably, or otherwise to give their legal representatives time to prepare for the case.

Khuzwayo says he is happy that the case ended up in court and he wants to see justice being served.

“I think it’s best to come to court because most of the time people who are in the limelight get accused, get offended and insulted so many times. For me, it’s not about this case, but about Senzo’s case because he died and we don’t know what really happened. So, for me to get injured like (that) over a sport event is really not right.”

The former Kaizer Chiefs keeper says he will always be a good example to other people irrespective of negative publicity.

“For people who look up to me in so many ways, I say whatever you do always be a human being. If you are leader make sure that you lead people, make sure you lead them to the right direction not in a wrong direction because when you lead them to the wrong direction, they will always fall. And always be a human being.”

Mantenetya says he is concerned as he got injured on campus.

“He called me with names that are serious. He came to the campus without any permit and there was no signs that he booked the venue. There was no motivational letter and there was nothing in the office of protection. We were having fun during the sports day and the institution did not know anything about Khuzwayo.”

Both suspects will be back in court on the 27th of October.
