BREAKING NEWS: Collins Chabane dies

Minister in The Presidency: Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Administration Collins Chabane died in a car crash early Sunday morning.

President Jacob Zuma says in a statement that the government is deeply shocked by his untimely death.

The details are sketchy at the moment. We will provide more details as they become available.

The Presidency @ Presidency ZA has confirmed via Twitter that Chabane died in the crash.

Chabane was born on the 15th of April 1960 at Xikundu Village, Limpopo Province. He joined the ANC underground activities at an early age of 17 and went to exile in May 1980.
Chabane served as Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation during the fourth administration.

He was able to develop and build the new Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation within a short space of time, and was able to make the monitoring and evaluation function a crucial part of government work and a distinct feature of President Zuma’s fourth administration.

Chabane also led the planning of the international funeral of former president Nelson Mandela.

A veteran of the liberation struggle, Mr Chabane was also a long serving member of the ANC National Executive Committee.
