Bra Eddie’s role in ANC will forever be cherished: Zikalala

Reading Time: 2 minutes

ANC Veterans League president, Dr Snuki Zikalala says Eddie Funde’s role in the ANC during and after the struggle will forever be cherished by the ANC.

Zikalala was addressing mourners attending the funeral service of the former South African Ambassador to Germany and former SABC Board Chairperson, Eddie Funde in Johannesburg.

74-year-old Funde passed away last week after a cardiac arrest. The anti-apartheid activist was part of the ANC’s underground while the organisation was banned.

The emotional Zikalala continued to say it’s worrying that the governing party keeps loosing its veterans at the time where there are many serious challenges.

He says: “For all those who knew Bra Eddie Sonwabo Funde, those who walked with him through the boulevard of the struggle, non can rebuke the fact that he was surrounded by the spirit of no surrender. His path has seen so many unimaginable dimensions which led him in different leadership positions on different continents and at different times.

“He was a humble and unassuming gentle giant who was always ready to serve the South African nation.”

Funde will be laid to rest at the Fourways Memorial Park Cemetery later this Thursday.

ANC Treasurer General Paul Mashatile also delivered the keynote address.
