A young female student has been shot and killed allegedly by her 23 year boyfriend, at a University off campus residence in Durban.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning. The victim was a first year Quantity Surveying student at the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
In a statement, MUT says the suspect was signed into the residences by another registered student.
Police say the suspect was still at the scene when they arrived. A firearm and ammunition were recovered. The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this stage.
KZN Police Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane says, “The incident happened in the early hours of this morning. Just after midnight where a 21 year old woman was allegedly shot and killed while she was in her room at Lonsdale Residence. The police were called and they attended to the scene and they noticed that the woman was already dead and the suspect handed himself over to police.”
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
