Masisi's visit will also discuss how countries in Southern Africa can take a regional approach to socio-economic recovery from COVID-19 impacts.

Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi is undertaking an official visit to fellow SADC members, Zambia and Zimbabwe on Wednesday On the agenda for the meeting is regional conflict as well as bilateral cooperation.

Masisi is the current chair of SADC’s Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.

The two-nation visit comes at a time where the region has been heavily criticised for its silence on the insurgency in Mozambique.

Dozens were killed at the weekend when militants attacked a hotel in Palma, north of the country.

Adrian Nel from KwaZulu Natal was one of the victims.

SADC is yet to release formal communication on the matter.

Masisi’s visit will also discuss how countries in Southern Africa can take a regional approach to socio-economic recovery from COVID-19 impacts.

Botswana’s President is also expected to use the meeting to canvas support for the position of SADC Executive Secretary which becomes available in August.
