Botswana’s Masire to be laid to rest

The late former president of Botswana, Sir Ketumile Masire funeral service has started in his home village of Kanye, 92 kilometers south of Gaborone.

Scores of people are attending the service.

Masire passed away last week after undergoing surgery at a private hospital in Gaborone.

Batswana, dignitaries and incumbent and former heads of state are expected to attend the funeral service.

On Wednesday hundreds gathered at the University of Botswana in Gaborone for the memorial service.

Thursday is the final homecoming for a man who grew up herding his father’s cattle and later became the Africa’s shining star in terms of promotion of peace and stability.
