Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Western Cape Blood Service says stocks of two major blood types are running low.

Spokesperson, Marike Gevers says there are fears that there won’t be enough O negative and A positive blood types for the next three days.

Gevers is now urging all eligible donors to donate blood as one donation can save up to three lives.

She says anyone between the ages of 16 and 75 is eligible to donate.

Blood stocks usually decline during winter due to the cold and flu, preventing people from donating.

Gevers says the COVID- 19 pandemic has also placed additional pressure on stocks.

The Blood Service aims to have a five-day supply of all blood groups.
