Blood stock critically low: SANBS

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The South African National Blood Services (SANBS) says blood stocks are at critically low levels.

Regional Marketing Manager for the SANBS, Sifiso Khoza says the available blood supply is only enough for two and half days.

He says they need five days supply to satisfy the demand of all hospitals in the country. Khoza says one unit of blood can save three lives.

“I am so appealing to everyone listening to please find 30 minutes of your time and visit one of our nearest centres or visit one of our mobile clinics to donate one unit of blood. As the South African National Blood Service we need 3000 units of blood every single day, unfortunately we hardly ever make this target.”
