SABC in Bloemfontein, in the Free State, has identified The Jean Webber Home for Persons with Disabilities as a center that needs assistance. The home was established to provide care, accommodation and rehabilitation for people with severe physical disabilities.

It currently cares for 26 people, between the ages of 20 and 78, including quadriplegics, paraplegics, hemiplegics (those paralyzed on one side of the body) and those who’ve had strokes. Although many residents have limited hand function, they can work with assistive devices. Some residents even do wheel-chair dancing and write poetry.

The home needs resources and partners willing to invest in the
ever-increasing cost of providing care and accommodation. It also needs
caregivers and transport.

On July 16, the SABC News team in Bloemfontein will help liven up the rooms, dining area, grounds and garden. It will mop floors, clean windows and assist with removing litter, leaves, refuge and rubbish.
