Block, two co-accused back in court

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former Northern Cape Public Works MEC John Block along with his two co-accused is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court today.

The trio is accused of unlawfully benefitting from a multi-million rand tender for the construction of the Kimberley Mental Hospital in 2003.

They are currently out on bail.

It is alleged that Block and the former head of department awarded Babereki Consulting Engineers, a tender worth more than R50 million even though they did not meet the requirements.

The state previously requested an eight-week postponement to gather all the evidence against the trio and hand over the relevant documents to the defence team.

Block is expected to appear virtually after the court agreed to his application to do so.-Reporting by Clement Matrooskevin
