Blitzboks ready for Cape Town after Dubai success

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Fresh from winning the first World Sevens tournament in Dubai this past weekend, the Blitzboks have arrived back in South Africa ahead of this weekend’s Cape Town Sevens, and the team is looking to build on the momentum.

The South Africans were unbeaten in Dubai, but coach Neil Powell admits it was a tough tournament. He says it has laid a good foundation for the series.

Powell says the team improved as the competition went on, but there are still things to work on ahead of Friday’s tournament start at the Cape Town Stadium.

The Blitzboks will play in a tough group to start, having been drawn with Japan, Fiji and the USA.

Powell says their first priority is being ready for Japan on Friday night.

The Blitzbok coach is also excited to see women’s teams involved at the Cape Town 7’s this season.

Blitzbok captain Siviwe Soyizwapi concurs and says it is exciting to have the women’s team at this year’s competition.

Soyizwapi says they will take a lot of confidence from the tournament in Dubai.

Soyizwapi says that for him and most of the Blitzboks, the Cape Town leg of the series is the highlight of the season. – Report by Rob Delport
