Blitzboks proceed to World Rugby quarterfinals

The South African Sevens Side will face Scotland in the quarter-finals of World Rugby’s International Sevens Series in Hamilton, New Zealand tomorrow .

The Blitzboks beat Papua New Guinea, Russia and England on day one to finish top of Pool B. The unbeaten South Africans also scored the most points on the day, 102.

The Blitzboks quickly opened the scoring against PNG. Dylan Sage dived over after 45 seconds.

Rosko Speckmann and Seabelo Senatla also scored in the first half and the South Africans enjoyed a 19-5 lead at the break.

Senatla and Speckmann crossed the tryline again in the second half. While Zain Davids also managed to go over for a 36-5 win against Russia.

The South Africans really started to find their feet. They scored six unanswered tries to record an impressive 38-nil victory. However, the Blitzboks kept their best for last.

They dominated England, their biggest test of the day From start to finish.

They led 21-nil at half-time and scored once more, in the second half, through Specman.

With just more than three minutes left in the match, England’s Ryan Olowofela was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle on Sage.

Play was halted for a few moments as Sage received treatment on the field. Eventually, he was able to get back up and left the field to undergo an assessment.

Sage was ruled out of day 2’s playoff action and will be replaced by Kwagga Smith.

England’s Dan Norton went over in the dying seconds of the clash but the Blitzboks had already done enough for a 28-7 win.
