Black Monday disrupts matric exams

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Matric examinations had to be delayed by two hours in some schools due to the Black Monday protests.

The protesters under the banner of “Genoeg is Genoeg” or “Enough is Enough” held nationwide marches to protest against farm killings.

Traffic was severely affected in Gauteng as protestors blockaded the R59 near Meyerton and the R28 in Krugersdorp. Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says all learners have been allowed to write their final examinations across the province.

“I want to thank all our principals that accommodated the disruptions that we had this morning (Monday). All our matric exams in GP (Gauteng Province) are now formally back on schedule. They were delayed by approximately an hour because of the protest but we’ve managed to accommodate those changes within our time table and learners were allowed to write the exam papers. So far our response indicates that all our learners that were supposed to write exams, wrote exams. The main problem obviously was the late arrival of learners purely because of the protests.”
